Community Connections

  • Bill Cook spoke about a SA Conference he attended.

I. Welcome & Roll Call

  • Nancy Baker called the meeting to order.
 

II. Guest Comments

  • Mona Cornwell introduced herself to CFAC. Mona has handed in an application to CFAC Membership Committee.

V. Minutes

  • December Minutes were reviewed.
  • December Minutes were approved.

VI. Endorsement Update

  • An Endorsement is the process of determining if Providers are following State Regulations for providing services.
  • A Weekly Report was created by Anne Doucette. Vince went over how to read the report. He asks that you look over the report and if you have any questions or concern, to email him and he will get the answers and get back to you.
  • When the next report comes out, it will help to understand it better when you are comparing the results.

VII. Legislative Oversight Committee

  • The 2 issues that LOC is concentrating on are 1. Service Definitions 2. The impact of the loss of CBS (Community Based Services). (LOC would like to also work on Crisis)
  • Although refused, one plan was to replace CBS services with Developmental Therapy services for DD consumers.
  • The next LOC meeting will be held Thursday, January 26 th at 9:30am-3:30pm at 643 Legislative Office Building (Salisbury Road) in Raleigh.
  • Larry Thompson was asked to get a Legislative Calendar of Events back to CFAC.

VIII.CFAC / LME Partnership

  • Arthur informed CFAC that CQI (Continuous Quality Care) will meet once a month. They last met on 1/17/06.
  • WH is looking into software to create flow charts. Arthur feels that flow charts will be a big help.
  • Arthur asks 2 questions:
  1. Does CFAC partake in a Legislative Day where they have the opportunity to see their Legislators?
  2. Does all of CFAC have a sense of identity? (Business cards, ID cards) Promote what CFAC is.
  • As of now there are some yearly happenings that incorporate Legislators (Empowerment Conference) but CFAC agrees they would like to see more.
  • CFAC agrees they need to be more involved with State/Regional CFAC. Jim Greer stated that he has been talking with Charlotte regarding Video Conferencing between CFAC's.
  • Donna Tatnall requested Advocacy Training for CFAC before going to Raleigh.
  • Arthur offered his services as an Ad Hoc to the committee put together to plan the event.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Vince will speak to Rhonda about getting ID cards for CFAC Members.

 

 

  • Mechelle Holt volunteered to find/create a List Serv for Regional/State CFAC and report back to CFAC.
  • Other members/guests agreed and had ideas such as training on the way to Raleigh (on the bus).

 

IX. Quarterly Report

  • Please look over the Draft Quarterly Report to get an idea of what the Quarterly Report will look like.
  • Email Leslie Huntley or Nancy Baker with any questions regarding the report. If they do not have an answer they will consult with Kris and get back to you.
  • Once received, Heidi will email CFAC the Final Copy of Quarterly Report and request comments.

X. Request from SA Advocacy Group

  • The SA Education/Support group will be holding a weekend retreat at WH. Bill Cook is asking the CFAC provide the money for the meals (4 meals to be provided). The requested amount will be no more than $2,000.00 and quite possibly could be a lot less.
  • Larry Thompson is offering his help at the retreat.
  • Many agree that there is a dire need of SA Treatments in the area. Flo Steins will fund the facilitator at the retreat. Jim Emmert will be the facilitator (a private consultant living in Florida)
  • The request was approved by CFAC Executive Committee.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Nancy motioned, Donna second and CFAC approved request.

XI. CFAC Retreat (Date?)

  • Retreat has been tabled. This will allow CFAC to focus on planning a day in Raleigh.
  • CFAC Executive Committee will discuss the retreat later.

XII. Committee Reports

  • MEMBERSHIP - The committee has reviewed Doug Michaels participation in CFAC for 2005/2006 (1 out of 7 meetings attended). The committee has also agreed to a letter being written to Doug asking for his resignation.
  • The committee will also soon be interviewing with tonight's guest Mona Cornwell.
  • Beverly St. James has been helping CFAC with advertisement for new members.
  • Beverly asks that CFAC approve spending up to $1,000.00 on advertising in local papers.
  • Beverly also recommends CFAC member from each county to take flyers back to their county to hand out/hang at local Churches, Banks, etc...
  • Janet recommends switching the wording of the advertisement and forming into an editorial

 

  • EXECUTIVE - Executive Committee agreed that CFAC needed to reach more communities. The idea was maybe to move the Monthly CFAC meeting to a different county 1 time a quarter.

 

  • FINANCE - Bill Cook gave a brief summary of money spent (over$6,000) and amount of budget left (over $27,000).
  • Mechelle & Bill came up with some guidelines for Grants to be broken down per county & service program.
  • All of CFAC was in favor of asking for a resignation from Doug Michaels.
  • Bill Cook has put in an application for State CFAC.

 

 

  • Beverly will email Ad's to Nancy Baker.
  • Motioned by Janet and Rosemary second - CFAC approved.
  • CFAC members from their county will need to help with advertising for new members for their counties.
  • Beverly will email for PSA on Radio.
  • Nancy Baker will see her neighbor that works for a local paper.
  • Beverly St. James will call Leslie Boyd at Citizen-Times and see if she can help.
  • Mechelle motioned to move CFAC meeting 1 time a quarter, Donna second the motion and CFAC approved.

 

 

 

 

  • Guidelines will be brought before Arthur Carder and then before WH Board before being approved.

Miscellaneous Information

  • Members of CFAC are needed to attend WH Board Meetings. It would be helpful if everyone could pick a month that they will be able to attend and let Nancy Baker or Heidi Sears know.
  • Wanda Greene is no longer on WH Board
  • Minnie Jones, a local advocate, is being considered.
  • Beverly St. James asks anyone who knows of a Support Group that they would like to see advertised in The Yellow Support Directory, please let her know.
  • Jim Greer hand out copies of "Peer Support Specialist" applications. If anyone knows of anyone interested in the position, please contact Jim Greer (828) 545-2523 or JIMMIE.GREER@ncmail.net.
  • Heidi will email a list of WH Board members and the counties that they represent to all of CFAC.
