Western Highlands Network Benefits Overview

Western Highlands Network (WHN) is pleased to present the following benefits for its employees:

Hours of Work: Employees of WHN have a 40-hour workweek. Employees must work at least 50% to be eligible for some fringe benefits.

Personal Time Off: Employees of WHN earn PTO on an accrual basis. PTO includes vacation, parent involvement in school leave, funeral leave, appointments and/or personal business. PTO will be earned as follows:

0 - less than 5 years 12 days (8 hrs/mo)
5 - less than 10 years 15 days (10 hrs/mo)
10 - less than 15 years 18 days (12 hrs/mo)
16 - less than 20 years 20 days (13.33 hrs/mo)
20 years and over 22 days (14.67 hrs/mo)

The maximum accumulation for PTO pay out at the end of the calendar year or upon termination is 30 days. Excess would be transferred to Sick Leave.

Sick Leave: Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day (8 hours; pro-rated for part-time) per month with no accrual limit. WHN will accept Sick Leave from employees transferring from NC Public Agencies.

Holidays: Holidays are identical to those of State employees.

Retirement: Six percent of all earnings deducted and deposited into the Local Governmental Employees Retirement System. WHN contributes at set rate.

Tax Deferred Savings: The Prudential 401(k) and Nationwide 457 Deferred Comp plans are available for employees.

Health/Dental Insurance: New employees working 80% or more are eligible for health/dental insurance on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. WHN pays 100% of employee health and dental insurance. The employee is responsible for family premiums for health and dental insurance. Health premiums may be pre-taxed through FSA. WHN offers a Flexible Spending Program (Café Plan) for unreimbursed medical and dependent care.

Life Insurance: A $15,000 supplemental Life Policy is provided at no cost to the employee working 80% or more. A death benefit equal to an employee's salary up to $50,000 is provided by the Retirement System after one year in the System.

Mileage/Travel: The mileage rate is the IRS limit; food expense is reimbursed at WHN limits.  Lodging is approved as necessary.

Employee Assistance Program: WHN offers EAP benefits.
