The primary aspect of the program is the “partnering” of families with volunteer teams from local church congregations. These trained volunteers work with the families to assist them with basic needs and support services.
A monthly get-together called “The Gathering” offers an opportunity for all the Faith Link families and volunteers to come together for fun and enriching social activities. Once a week, on Wednesday evenings the Learning Enrichment and Enhancement Project (LEEP) connects Faith Link children with individual “learning mentors” while parents attend a parenting round table discussion group.
The Faith Link program criterion is as follows:
- The family must be 200% below the poverty level for Henderson County
- Children must be under 18 yrs. old
- The family must go through an interview process to assess:
- Client motivation to participate
- That the referring agency and the family are aware that the workers are all volunteers
- Family must have 4 visits with Faith Link staff to be assessed for church team partnering. A no-show will be followed with a follow-up call, up to a maximum of 3 follow-up calls.
- Families may be participants of LEEP or of the Gathering without being partnered with a church team.
- If there is a psychiatric diagnosis, the individual(s) must be in treatment and be medication compliant
Non-English-speaking families must be participating in ESL classes. Faith Link is located at 210 Ehringhaus St., Hendersonville, NC
