Western Highlands Network Board

The mission of the Board of the Western Highlands Area Authority is to represent the citizens of the area by establishing priorities and program goals related to comprehensive, high quality, and cost-effective services for those who are living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse. The Board will oversee the operation of the Area Authority in authorization and reimbursement of services for the residents of the area.

How members are selected:

Eight members of the Area Board shall be appointed, one by the Board of Commissioners of each County in the Western Highlands catchment area. The remaining members of the Area Board shall be appointed, on a staggered basis, with one-third of the terms to expire each year, by the County Commissioner designated members from persons nominated by the respective Boards of County Commissioners to represent such County, with one member to be elected who resides in each County in the catchment area, from nominations from the Board of County Commissioners from each County. Nominations shall comply with N.C.G.S. 122C-118.
